WASTE ZERO is our rallying cry to make the best and highest use of all resources that are manufactured, consumed, discarded and re-manufactured.
It means using resources wisely, generating waste only as necessary, and finding ways to use waste products in ways that benefit the environment.
It means landfilling only those materials we haven't yet figured out a use for.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, over 100 volunteers from Recology, the employee-owned recycling company, added compost made from food scraps collected at Oakland restaurants to the Hoover Elementary School sustainable garden in support of the school's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiative, and planted trees and various drought tolerant plants throughout the school grounds.
