Stop calling it garbage
Few things, once they are used, are actually waste material. Among such things are broken glass, latex gloves and other complex materials that were not designed to be recycled.
“Waste” is created when materials that are reusable (like old furniture), compostable or recyclable are mixed with non-recyclable materials that contaminate them.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, over 100 volunteers from Recology, the employee-owned recycling company, added compost made from food scraps collected at Oakland restaurants to the Hoover Elementary School sustainable garden in support of the school's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiative, and planted trees and various drought tolerant plants throughout the school grounds.
